Course objective:
This course is aimed to give the students a chemical background in the role of the elements and their complexes in living organisms. Role of enzymes and coenzymes, macrocyclic chelating ligands. Importance of microelements to living system, medicinal chemistry.
Course description:
This course includes an introduction to bioinorganic chemistry and its relation with other branches of chemistry as well as of other sciences. Role and function of inorganic elements in biological system. Macrocyclic chelate ligands. Nucleobases, neucleotides, and nucleic acid as ligands, dealing with models, corrin, porphyrin,cobalamines, cytochromes, haemoglobin, oxygen carriers, ferrodoxins, redox reactions, blue copper proteins, photosynthesis, vitamin B, inhibition and poisoning, essential biological microelements, and medicinal chemistry.
